Academic Content and Curriculum of Art History Undergraduate Program

The academic content of the Bachelor of Arts in Art History is based on developing the ability to evaluate works of art from a historical, cultural and analytical perspective. The curriculum is broadly designed and covers various periods, styles and movements of art, as well as its reflections in different cultures. The program is usually divided into four main sections: Foundation courses, periodic art history, thematic courses and applied courses.

Basic Courses: Students begin with courses that cover basic topics such as theories of art history, art criticism, and methodology of art. These courses provide basic skills on how to analyze, interpret and present works of art. It also focuses on the philosophical and aesthetic foundations of art history.

Periodic Art History: In this department, students study the art movements and works of various periods such as Ancient Greek and Roman art, Medieval art, Renaissance, Baroque, Modern and Contemporary art, starting from Prehistoric times. Each period is analyzed in terms of the social, economic and political factors that influenced the art of that period. For example, while analyzing the art of the Renaissance period, the relations of this period with science, religion and philosophy are also examined.

Thematic Lectures: These courses focus on a specific theme or artist. For example, topics such as "War and Art", "Women Artists and Gender", "Interactions in Eastern and Western Art" are covered under this category. Such courses offer the opportunity to evaluate art history in a broader cultural and social context.

Applied Courses: The curriculum also includes practical work in museums or galleries, giving students the chance to examine works of art directly. Courses such as restoration, conservation techniques and exhibition organization offer students the opportunity to combine their theoretical knowledge with practice. In addition, courses that provide students with the skills to conduct art historical research using digital art tools and software also play an important role in this program.

This rich and varied curriculum provides students with a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills in the field of art history, while allowing them to develop as independent researchers. The program provides the in-depth knowledge and analytical skills necessary for art historians to play an important role in the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage.sw
