Who is not suitable for the Folklore Undergraduate Program?

The BA in Folklore may not be suitable for students with specific interests and expectations. First of all, this program is often theoretically oriented and requires an interdisciplinary approach. Therefore, this program may not be satisfactory for students who prefer to achieve more practical and concrete results and who are more interested in concrete sciences or technical fields. Folklore is designed for individuals who are interested in the abstract and analytical aspects of the social sciences and want to delve deeper into cultural issues.

In addition, part of the program is devoted to fieldwork and ethnographic research. For this reason, this program may not be suitable for students who are not interested in research and fieldwork and who are looking for an education that is more oriented towards classroom education and theoretical learning. The folklore program expects students to have the ability to work independently and the willingness to conduct research on their own, so students who are not interested in such studies or who have difficulty in such studies may not benefit from the program.

Career opportunities in this field may be more limited than in some other disciplines. In particular, for students who expect job security or fast-track employment, folklore may fall short of meeting these expectations. The program is particularly aimed at those who aim to work in areas such as academic research, cultural institutions and government policy. Therefore, it may not be suitable for students who prefer more traditional and stable career paths.

Finally, the program offers students a broad cultural and societal perspective, which may require students to question their own cultural and social norms. This process can be uncomfortable for some students. For students who do not want to question their own beliefs and values or who are not interested in such cultural and social analysis, the folklore program may not be appropriate. Thus, this program may not be suitable for students who are not interested in self-reflection and taking a broad cultural perspective.
