The Geophysical Engineering Undergraduate Program has a special place among Geosciences disciplines and is usually a four-year program. The main objective of this program is to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the physical structure of the Earth, seismic activity, subsurface resources and the technologies used in these areas, and to train them as effective professionals in this sector.
The academic content of the program consists of mathematics, physics and computer science as well as various courses related to geophysics. Students learn in detail topics such as the analysis of the earth's crust and its internal structure, the detection of underground water resources, oil and natural gas exploration techniques, earthquake science, the study of geothermal energy sources. There is also a focus on the applied aspects of geophysical engineering, giving students practical knowledge and skills in areas such as seismic, magnetic, gravimetric and electrical measurement techniques.
Teaching methods include theoretical lectures as well as laboratory work, field studies and projects. This gives students the opportunity to solve real-world problems and put their theoretical knowledge into practical applications. In addition, students gain the ability to use modern geophysical engineering tools and software.
In terms of career and employment opportunities, geophysical engineers often find opportunities to work in the petroleum and natural gas sectors, mining companies, environmental consulting firms or government agencies. Professionals working in this field undertake a variety of tasks such as exploration of underground resources, earthquake risk analysis, management of water resources and environmental impact assessments.
The program also offers students internship and practice opportunities. Thanks to these internships, students have the chance to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired during their education in practice and get to know the internal dynamics of the sector closely. Internships increase students' chances of finding a job after graduation and help them develop their professional network.
