The academic content and curriculum of the Traditional Turkish Arts Undergraduate Program is designed to comprehensively teach students the rich and diverse aspects of traditional Turkish arts. The program offers a holistic education with courses that include art history, theory and application techniques.
The curriculum usually begins with basic art history courses. In these courses, students are introduced to the historical development, origins, interactions and evolution of Turkish art. This gives students the opportunity to understand the cultural and historical context of art.
Art theory courses include the philosophy, aesthetics and critical analysis of art. Students learn about the process of the creation of works of art, their impact on society and culture, and different interpretations of art.
Practical courses form the basis of the program. In these courses, students have the opportunity to directly practice various traditional art techniques. These include;
Miniature: The art of making detailed and colorful paintings. Calligraphy: The art of writing and decorating using Arabic letters. Illumination: The art of decorating paper or leather with gold and other metallic paints. Marbling: The art of making colorful patterns on paper with special techniques. Tile: The art of ceramic decoration. Woodworking: The art of carving and decorating wooden materials. In these courses, students learn both traditional techniques and discover ways to combine them with modern interpretations. Practical applications allow students to learn the subtleties and craftsmanship aspects of art while developing their manual skills.
The curriculum may also include subjects such as material knowledge and art management. Material science courses provide information on the properties and processing methods of the various materials used in art making. Art management courses cover topics such as exhibition organization, collection management and conservation of artworks.
In the final years of the program, students are given the opportunity to prepare research projects and dissertations. This allows students to do independent work, bringing together the theoretical and practical knowledge they have learned.
The Traditional Turkish Arts Undergraduate Program offers students in-depth theoretical knowledge, while at the same time offering a rich curriculum that includes practical applications of traditional arts. This program provides the necessary skills to understand, apply and reinterpret art.
