Who is not suitable for the Eastern Languages Undergraduate Program?

The Bachelor of Oriental Languages may not be suitable for students with certain expectations and learning styles. Valid reasons for not choosing this program depend on factors such as the student's career goals, interests and motivation to learn.

Lack of Interest and Motivation: If students have no interest in or passion for the languages and cultures of Asia and the Middle East, the Eastern Languages program may not be for them. Language learning requires a great deal of time and effort, especially in such a difficult and intensive program. If the student does not have a genuine interest in these languages and cultures, the difficulty and intensity of the program may negatively affect their motivation.

Different Career Goals: If a student's career goals do not require proficiency in Eastern languages, the training and skills offered by this program may be too specific for them. For example, for a student planning a career in engineering, science, health sciences or business, the Eastern Languages program may not directly contribute to achieving these goals.

Lack of Practical Application: For some students, theoretical language learning and cultural studies may not be satisfying enough. If the student prefers more practical and hands-on work and has little interest in theoretical work, the heavy theoretical content of this program may be boring and unsatisfying for them.

Intensive Language Training: The Eastern Languages program requires a high level of language learning and maintenance effort from students. If a student has difficulty learning a language or is unwilling to devote a large amount of time to the process, the intensity and demands of the program may be too demanding for them.

As a result, the Bachelor of Arts in Oriental Languages may not be suitable for students who lack interest and passion, have different career goals, seek a more practical and hands-on education, or do not want to engage in an intensive language learning process. This program not only provides students with language skills, but also requires a broad cultural understanding and disciplined study habits. It is therefore important for students to carefully consider their expectations and motivation before joining this program.
