Climate of Province Ordu

Ordu has a climate that is typical of the Black Sea Region. High humidity and abundant rainfall throughout the year are the most prominent aspects of the climatic characteristics of this city. While the winter months are generally mild, the summer months can be cool and rainy. The climate differs between the coastal and inland areas; while the coastal areas have a milder climate due to the sea effect, as the elevation increases inland, temperatures drop and snowfall is more frequent.

Temperature values vary according to the seasons. While the average temperature varies between 6-10°C in winter, it hovers around 20-25°C in summer. The coldest months are usually January and February, while the hottest months are July and August. The spring months, especially May and June, are the periods when temperatures in Ordu gradually begin to rise and nature comes to life. Autumn is usually rainy and temperatures slowly start to drop.

Precipitation is another important element of Ordu's climate and is effective for most of the year. The annual rainfall is quite high and varies between 1000-1200 mm on average. The most precipitation is usually observed in the fall and winter months, in November and December. Although the spring months are also relatively rainy, precipitation decreases slightly in the summer months.

In Ordu, winds generally blow from the north and northeast, bringing cool and humid air into the region. North winds blowing especially in the winter months can cause temperatures to drop even more noticeably. These winds, called sea breezes, bring coolness to inland areas in summer.

Ordu's climate has significant impacts on life. High humidity and abundant rainfall positively affect agricultural activities and offer ideal conditions especially for hazelnut production. However, this can also lead to some health problems due to the high humidity, for example respiratory diseases and allergies are more common in this climate. For city dwellers, these climatic characteristics also influence the way they dress and live their daily lives; due to frequent rainfall, waterproof clothing and umbrellas are often used. Furthermore, high humidity and temperature changes increase the need for maintenance and repair of buildings, which becomes an important factor in the selection of building materials and structural protection measures.
