Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) is a state university established in Afyonkarahisar in 1992. However, the history of the university dates back to the Afyonkarahisar School of Finance and Accounting, which was established in 1974. This school started to provide education under Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. In 1992, it merged under the name Afyon Kocatepe University and expanded its educational activities.
The university has a wide academic range and provides education in 12 faculties, 4 colleges, 15 vocational schools and 3 institutes. These faculties include the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Tourism, Faculty of Sports Sciences and Faculty of Fine Arts. Each faculty offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in its field.
The main campus of AKU is the Ahmet Necdet Sezer Campus. This campus is the main education and research center of the university and offers various laboratories, research centers, sports facilities and social amenities. Apart from the Ahmet Necdet Sezer Campus, there are other campuses such as the Ali Çetinkaya Campus, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences. These campuses provide students with modern and technologically equipped educational environments.
Research and development activities are one of the most important priorities of Afyon Kocatepe University. The University is equipped with various research centers and laboratories and conducts scientific research and projects. The Scientific Research Projects Unit (BAP) operates to support and coordinate the university's research projects. In addition, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) within the university encourages university-industry collaborations and helps researchers commercialize their projects.
AKU attaches great importance to international collaborations and offers students study and internship opportunities abroad through Erasmus+, Mevlana and other exchange programs.
