Introduction

The foundations of Bilkent University, the first foundation university in Turkey, were laid in 1967. These preparations, which began with the purchase of a large piece of land in the west of Ankara, laid the foundation for a research university that today has more than 50,000 graduates.

Bilkent University was founded on October 20, 1984 by the decision of İhsan Doğramacı Foundations. Today, the university offers 29 undergraduate and 59 graduate programs in its 3 institutes and 10 faculties, and has become a globally recognized education and research center with 12,000 students and faculty members from 39 countries.

 


Üniversity's educational approach is focused on developing students' ability to think clearly and make rational decisions. These skills, combined with a broad knowledge of the field and a broad world view, set Bilkent graduates up for lifelong success. Furthermore, Bilkent expands the international vision of its students through exchange agreements with 332 universities from four continents.

Since its establishment, Bilkent University has ranked among the top universities in Turkey and the world in terms of the number of international scientific publications per faculty member. This reinforces the university's leading role in higher education. In addition, according to the YÖK’’n Foundation HigheröEducation Institutions Report 2021, Bilkent University has the distinction of being the university that allocates the highest amount of money to library expenditures.

The Career Center was established in 1988 to guide students in their post-degree plans. This center was the first such unit in a Turkish university and today serves as the Career and Alumni Office. Students and graduates can apply for internship and job vacancies of companies by submitting their CVs to the office's database via the internet.

Bilkent University was founded to serve humanity and promote world peace by creating an environment of learning and intellectual progress that encompasses all sciences, technology and the arts. Education at the university is not only seen as a means of obtaining a job or career; on the contrary, it is intended to encourage students to think and learn and to learn to learn. Through educational programs in different fields, scientific research activities, and arts and culture activities, students are raised as lifelong learners, as well as as individuals who can think and think independently.
