Academic Staff

Bilkent University believes that the most valuable resource of a higher education institution is the researcher and retentive academicians who are committed to science and art. With this belief, the faculty is formed and developed with great care. Bilkent is emerging as an international education and research center with academics from all over the world. Approximately one fourth of the university's 732-strong teaching staff consists of faculty members from 39 different countries. 81% of the faculty members received their doctoral degrees from foreign universities. While many faculty members have successfully continued their careers abroad, many have chosen to continue their studies here, preferring the academic environment offered by Bilkent University.

Bilkent University faculty members' success in their research fields is measured by the number of articles they publish in international refereed journals and the citations to these publications. According to these criteria, Bilkent University ranks among the top universities in Turkey and around the world. Books written by Bilkent faculty members are published by international publishing houses and reach a wide readership.

The impact of research conducted by Bilkent University faculty on science and society is also demonstrated by the financial support these projects receive from external stakeholders such as TÜBİTAK, the European Union, public institutions and private companies. Between the years 2005-2021, 805 grants from TÜBİTAK, 459 grants from public and private companies and 120 grants from European Union programs were received for scientific projects in which faculty members were involved. These projects have been financed with a total amount of nearly TL 1.1 billion. In addition, 10 Bilkent faculty members have been successful in winning research support from the European Research Council (ERC).


Classrooms, Laboratories and Stüdyos

A large majority of courses at Bilkent University are taught in modern classrooms that encourage active student participation. The university also has fully equipped teaching laboratories and studios where various practical exercises are carried out. Laboratories in the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science provide services in areas such as electronics, nanotechnology, optics, photonics, signal processing, antennas and microwaves, flexible manufacturing systems, heat and fluids, mechanics and materials, advanced research, quantum mechanics and experimental physics.

The Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture has digital media, photography, video, building technology, materials and production laboratories, design studios; painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and drawing studios. There is an electroacoustic müz laboratory in the Faculty of Müz and Performing Arts. In addition, simultaneous translation laboratories are available for the use of English and French Mülütranslation and interpreting students.
